Sample Itinerary

The following itinerary is recommended as a guide for planning purposes only. Track and weather conditions will inevitably determine the final journey of each individual challenge. To maintain our unblemished safety record, all trekking with Our Spirit is done during daylight hours only. Trekking at night increases the risk of injury and should only be attempted by experienced trekkers when absolutely necessary.

1

Transfer: Domestic flight from your destination to Darwin, transfer (taxi or hotel shuttle bus) to Crown Plaza Hotel, 32 Mitchell Street Darwin.

Accommodation: Twin share room at Crown Plaza Hotel in Darwin

Activity: Depart hotel at 9am sharp. Drive to Manyalluluk, stopping at the famous Edith Falls for a swim and lunch before proceeding on to the start of the track (north-west of Katherine in Old Eva Valley Station, now Manyallaluk “the dreaming place’).  Upon arrival, participants will enjoy a sumptuous BBQ dinner.

Accommodation: Camping in tents

Activity walk: Cultural tour of Manyalluluk with local Indigenous leaders.  Evening walk of approximately 10 km along the picturesque escarpment to watch the breathtaking Northern Territory sunset.  Great photo oppportunities!

Activity: Walk 19km through isolated woodlands of the "Dreaming Place Trail"  to Camp 1.

Activity: Walk 14.5 km to Camp 2.  Commencing with a descent down the escarpment following a creek from its spring source to  the upper reaches of the Katherine River.  Visit various Indigenous sites and enjoy the remote Savannah landscape and river scenery along the way.

Activity: Walk 12km to Camp 3. Negotiate the extremely rugged upper gorge through Nimiluk Park to the beautiful campsite of the 8th Gorge.  Experience the untouched areas of Kakadu where there is plenty of original Indigenous rock art and sacred sites.

Activity: Walk from Camp 3 to the canoe entry point.  Paddle 11km down the 8 Gorges of the famous Nitimiluk Gorge as you become revitalised from the energy resonating deep within the walls of the remaining gorges and rock bars that separate each gorge.

Transfer:  End of the Kakadu Track to the Hotel (4 hours)

Accommodation: Crown Plaza Hotel - Darwin - twin share room

Transfer:  Participants return to their respective destinations.
