Tassie Challenge II Itinerary

Sample Itinerary

The following itinerary is recommended as a guide for planning purposes only.  Track and weather conditions will inevitably determine the final journey of each individual challenge.  To maintain our unblemished safety record, all trekking with Our Spirit is done during daylight hours only.  Trekking at night increases the risk of injury and should only be attempted by experienced trekkers when absolutely necessary.

After breakfast we mountain bike ride 10km to the historic town of New Norfolk along the first connecting road to Hobart (which was built in 1818). Arrivng at New Norfolk, we jump into the kayaks once more for a 17km kayak paddle to Bridgewater where we stop for lunch before commencing an enduring 15km up hill mountain bike ride to Collinsvale.

New Norfolk was also the place of exile of the Irish nationalist leader Terence MacManus, where his cottage, "The Grange" still stands. Later he was joined by his fellow Irish rebel William Smith O'Brien.

New Norfolk is steeped in pioneering history where the original settlers were re-settled from Norfolk Island in 1808. They soon farmed the rich land around the town and introduced hops to the area in 1860. The plant soon became an important crop. More from Wikipedia...
